Established in 1998, our ophthalmic clinical research department has built a distinguished reputation for excellence.
The CEC research department has conducted over 100 Phase I-III interventional clinical trials including a variety of eye diseases. We have participated in Ophthalmic trials sponsored by top 10 pharmaceutical research and Biotech companies as well as start up organizations.
All studies are performed with the highest integrity. We abide by the principles and ethics laid out by the Declaration of Helinski and Belmont Report. Supporting our patients’ and their best interests is integral in the care our practitioners provide within our research department.
Research Team
Our 12 highly experienced ophthalmologists and 4 optometrists have clinical research experience. Three of these ophthalmologists that specialize in general ophthalmology, retinal, and glaucoma are also certified principal investigators. Our physicians bring a wealth of experience and longevity to their roles, ensuring the delivery of accurate and meaningful research results. Their subject matter expertise and commitment to quality is central to our department’s success. Additionally, we are appropriately staffed to offer our research participants a concierge experience, reflecting our dedication to providing exceptional care and support throughout their involvement in our studies.
Our research coordinators all have a working knowledge regarding FDA and ICH regulations. Two research coordinators are professionally certified, ensuring that all aspects of our research adhere to the highest industry standards. All research staff are also trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), allowing them to maintain the highest level of clinical integrity. In addition to their regulatory and procedural expertise, our coordinators provide exceptional care to each participant, balancing rigorous adherence to clinical protocols with a commitment to personalized, compassionate support.

Clinical Trial Facilities
Connecticut Eye Consultants has offices in both Fairfield and Litchfield Counties. Our flagship office is located in Danbury, CT, about one hour outside of New York City. Patients in our Danbury office have access to all of our ophthalmic specialties: General Ophthalmology, Cataract, Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma and Oculoplastics. Additionally, our clinical research department and a full-service optical shop are in our Danbury office. This state of the art 15,300-square-foot facility houses a dedicated research suite, 23 examination rooms, 9 pretest/history rooms, locked study supply storage, secure servers and workstations, wireless internet, and administration space. Currently, our active client base has over 150,000 patients.
Connecticut Eye Consultants also has 4 specialty satellite offices to further serve our community. These offices and specialties include: Cornea and Retina in Prospect, CT; Oculoplastics in Southbury, CT; Cornea and General Ophthalmology in New Milford, CT; and General Ophthalmology in Lakeville, CT. All scheduled surgeries are performed off-site at one of 7 surgical centers in Western CT.
